Week 6 – Nabhi-Void: Inner Peace and Self Mastery

This week we learned about two aspects of the subtle system: the Nabhi Chakra and the Void. Both are closely related and share similar physical correspondences and both have a lot to do with our balance and innate ethics.

Here is the recording of this week’s session in case you missed it or want to watch it again:

Recording of session 6 on the Nabhi chakra and the Void

Nabhi Chakra

The first quality of the Nabhi chakra is seeking. Initially, seeking is for basic needs such as food and shelter. Fulfilling these needs leads to satisfaction on a worldly level. This type of satisfaction is temporary and dependent on external factors. As the Nabhi chakra evolves, seeking becomes spiritual. Fulfilling spiritual needs through Kundalini awakening leads to a deep innate satisfaction that is always accessible.

Other qualities of the Nabhi chakra are generosity, peace and balance.

Void

The Void is not a chakra, but the space circling around the Nabhi as you can see in the green circle in the diagram above. The Void is described as the ‘ocean of illusion’ that distracts us from recognising our spiritual nature. There are ten primordial masters (or Adi Gurus) that guide us through this ocean and to stay on the path of spiritual ascent and self-knowledge.

Treatments

In session 2 we learned about the foot soak. As this uses the element water it is also effective specifically for the Nabhi chakra and for the Void.

In this session we covered two more treatments you can experiment with if you feel a ‘catch’ on the Nabhi (a warm or tingling sensation in the left or right middle finger):

  • The ice pack for the right Nabhi
  • Candling for the left Nabhi.

Ice Pack

If you feel a block or the catch on the right Nabhi you can try using an ice pack. The ice pack works by cooling down the liver which is the seat of our attention. This is especially helpful if you find it difficult to reduce your thinking during meditation.

  1. Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag (ideally water proof) and wrap this in a thin towel
  2. Hold the ice pack with your left hand and place it on your liver for about 5 minutes (the upper right area of your abdomen just under the ribs)
  3. Meditate and feel how the liver and your right side cool down
  4. Put away the ice pack and meditate in thoughtless awareness

Candling

So far we have recommended that you place a candle in front of Shri Mataji’s picture whilst you meditate. Now we will use a candle to work on a specific chakra. Candling works on all chakras on the left side, so you can experiment with this whenever you feel a blockage or catch on your left hand. Do not use candling on the right side.

Simply light a candle and hold it in front of the chakra for a few minutes. Optionally you can also make small clockwise circles with the candle around the chakra. After you feel some relief you can put away the candle and meditate.
