The Heart or Anahata Chakra
The Heart chakra (in Sanskrit called ‘Anahata’ chakra) has distinct qualities on the left, center and right part of the center.
- The left heart is the seat of the spirit – our true self. In Sanskrit this is named as ‘Atma’ and has the qualities of Sat, Chit and Ananda (truth, awareness and bliss)
- The center heart lies behind the sternum bone where antibodies are created during childhood and is the chakra of complete protection and courage
- The right heart is the center of responsibility and the ethics of the perfect human being

Self knowledge is at the core of the practice of Sahaja Yoga and the seat of the self is in the left heart. The understanding is that we are not the body or the mind (we have a body and a mind) but we are the Spirit (or the self or the Atma).
This week during meditation you can use the affirmation ‘I am the Spirit’ or – a little longer – ‘I am not this body or this mind, I am nothing but the Spirit’. Try to feel the depth and tap into the qualities of the self: Sat, Chit, Ananda – or truth, awareness and bliss. It is largely the last aspect, the bliss or joy, that makes people want to meditate again.
If you can manage to keep your attention on your Spirit during the day and at work that would be great!
