Week 10 – Sahasrara Chakra: Going Deeper

Sahasrara Chakra

‘Sahasrara’ means ‘thousand’ which relates to the thousand multi-coloured petals of the Sahasrara chakra on the crown of our head. The Sahasrara is the destination of our meditation and integrates the qualities of all other chakras. When the Kundalini enters into the Sahasrara our Spirit in the heart rises and takes its seat at the crown of our head and we can perceive the flow of vibrations and the joy of our Spirit on our central nervous system. Ultimately, when we deepen our meditative state, we establish the state of ‘Nirananda’. ‘Nir’ means ‘nothing other than’ and ‘ananda’ means ‘bliss’.

Going into Sahasrara gives us the vibratory awareness on our hands that we can use to diagnose the state of our subtle system. But entering the Sahasrara also gives us access to deep spiritual insights from the collective unconscious and our own Spirit that enlighten our spiritual ascent. This is where mystics draw their inspiration from. This is why the experience of self-realisation by raising the Kundalini to the level of the Sahasrara is always at the beginning of Sahaja Yoga as it was in the first session of this course. This spiritual experience is at the core of Sahaja Yoga and though reading and knowledge are useful, they are secondary to the depth of our inner experience.

Keeping the attention on Sahasrara is the simplest meditation technique which you can apply not only during your regular meditation but also throughout the day.

Here is the recording of this final session in case you missed it or want to watch it again:

Taking it Further

We hope this course has given you some insights into the method of Sahaja Yoga meditation and that you could feel the depth and joy of your spirit. There is no certificate for completing this course – the only certificate in Sahaja Yoga is the meditative state that you achieve. The following are few tips how you can increase that meditative state:

  • Meditate regularly – remember, meditation is not an activity, but a state of thoughtless awareness
  • Desire – the meditative state cannot be forced on anyone – the first step to achieving that state is to desire it
  • Keep your attention – take your meditative experience into your daily life; given the many distractions this is not easy, but you can practice keeping your attention on your Spirit and on our Sahasrara
  • Introspect – see your blockages and get rid of these using your attention, meditation and treatments; at the same time seek your depth and expand this
  • Attend local meetings – though Sahaja Yoga is a personal journey of self-knowledge, the vibrations flow much stronger when we meditate together and there is plenty to learn from each other and from experienced practitioners
  • Increase your knowledge by listing to speeches and reading about Sahaja Yoga – (listening to Shri Mataji’s speeches is also a great way of strengthening your meditation)

The internet is a tremendous source of knowledge on Sahaja Yoga, and here are a few recommended sites:
