Week 9 – Agnya Chakra: Forgiveness

Agnya Chakra

The Agnya Chakra is the two-petalled energy center at the level of our forehead and corresponds physically with the optic chiasma. This is where the left and right channels of the sympathetic nervous system cross and build a narrow gate. It is when the Kundalini passes through this gate that we enter into thoughtless awareness, transcend the limitations of the mind and meditation begins.

The key to passing through this gate is to forgive.

As we enter thoughtless awareness, the balloons of the Ego and Super-Ego deflate and we transcend the limitations of our I-ness and our conditionings. This greatly relieves any stress that is caused by overactivity of our left and right channels and allows our awareness to move to our Spirit which is our true identity.

Here you will find the recording of this week’s session in case you missed it or want to watch it again:

Personifications

In some of our sessions we have talked about the guardian, deity or personification of the chakra. These terms refer to the archetypal incarnation that represents or is the source of the qualities of the chakra.

The deity of the Agnya chakra is Lord Jesus Christ who forgave on the cross – hence the importance of our own forgiveness to open our Agnya.

The deity of the Ego is Lord Buddha and the deity of the Super-Ego is Mahavira. Buddha and Mahavira were contemporaries and both were princes turned ascetics. Lord Buddha caters for our Ego and connects us to the collective ego which is free of any false I-ness. Lord Mahavira governs the Super-Ego and helps us overcome conditionings that are detrimental to our self-knowledge.

Affirmations and Mantras

The affirmation for the Agnya chakra is simply “I forgive” or “I forgive everyone and myself”.

In meditation simply place your right hand across your forehead and say the affirmation from your heart a few times. Then see if your thoughts have reduced.

In this course we have not touched much on mantras, but in this session we used some very simple ones.

Saying OM is a very simple way of increasing the flow of vibrations and going deeper into thoughtless awareness. When you use this mantra you can either keep your attention on the Sahasrara chakra at the top of your head or you can use your right hand to slowly raise your Kundalini whilst you chant OM.

You can also use the mantras ‘Ham’ and ‘Ksham’. These are so-called ‘Beeja’ mantras that reflect the sound created as the Kundalini touches the individual petals of the Agnya chakra. Sanskrit language is based on these sounds and ‘Ham’ means ‘I am’ and ‘Ksham’ means ‘I forgive’. Simply say both words a couple of times with your attention in Sahasrara and see the vibrations.
